Seeing your dentist for a checkup and cleaning twice a year is one of the most important ways you can maintain your oral health. While brushing your teeth and flossing every day is essential, you should still come in every six months. That way, we can provide a more thorough cleaning and make sure there aren’t any issues developing beneath the surfaces of your teeth and gums.
During the cleaning portion of your visit, one of our hygienists will use specialized instruments designed to gently remove all plaque and tarter that brushing and flossing cannot remove on their own. Brushing at home does a good job at removing food particles, but plaque and bacteria will still build up, regardless of your efforts, and a professional cleaning will keep your mouth as healthy as possible.
After your cleaning, Dr. Peter Ruggiero will very carefully examine your teeth and gums. He may do so using advanced technology like digital x-rays, an intraoral camera, or even Trios 3D scanner. The goal of the exam is to address any concerns you may have as well as examine your teeth, gums, TMJ and surrounding tissues. After the exam he will discuss all treatment options and answer any questions you may have.
