Christmas is just around the corner, now, meaning that those little gifts you put off purchasing throughout the year, must now be bought and tucked into their stockings hung with care, quickly. Before you panic, though, and certainly before you resort to your usual stocking stuffers, candy, candy, and more candy, take a little advice from your children’s dentist, instead. Stockings don’t have to be filled with potentially teeth-rotting sugar. Why not choose more creative, and much healthier, options?
For Young Kids Opt for Fun Treats That Don’t Involve Sugar
If you have young children or grandchildren to shop for, look for age appropriate toys. Depending on each of their ages, this could range from rubber bath toys, bubbles wands, or even small games or puzzles, to more complex card games, action figures and other collectibles.
Art supplies are often welcome additions, as well. Think small boxes of crayons, mini sketch pads, markers or even modeling clay. Stickers or temporary tattoos are other good options!
For Teenagers, Think Tech Gear and Giftcards!
Older kids may not need or want a lot of toys, but there are still healthy alternatives to candy, which could later create the need for tooth fillings. For instance, most pre-teens and teens could use updated tech-related accessories, like a new set of headphones, a phone case, or even a USB drive for storing photos or projects.
Travel toiletries are also another great addition, particularly for those kids active in extracurricular activities that have them traveling, frequently.
Giftcards are also perfect for all ages, and tuck neatly into a stocking.
What Should You Get for the Adults In Your Life?
As for the adults in your life, whether you are shopping for a spouse, a sibling, or your grown children, there are lots of options that don’t involve sugar. Giftcards, again, can be chosen to suit anyone’s taste. Or, personalize the gifts to your loved ones likes.
For the chef in your life, why not throw in a few helpful gadgets, like a silicone spatula or a small grater? Have a husband or wife obsessed with music? Include a new CD, an MP3 gift card or even tickets to an upcoming concert. Hobby-related items are often welcome, and much more personal than other options, including candy!
